Hello!

The line on the two lines means they equal each other

5x + 10 = 40

Subtract 10 from each side

5x = 30

Divide both sides by 5

x = 6

The answer is 6

I would think 6 but I am not sure!

you have 40, and then the same exact side is 5x + 10
so you take 40-10 = 30 now ten is gone you just have 5x... and 5 x 6 = 30 I am not completely sure but I hope this helps!
