Jean-François Millet's The Gleaners blends Socialism with Realism.  Millet was prompted by social injustice to paint it.  The Gleaners painting depicts three peasant women gleaning a field of stray grains of wheat after the harvest.  This capture both the poverty and dignity of rural French life. He was considered a socialist revolutionary.
