Primary site for digestion and absorption of nutrients is at the small intestine. The partially digested food from the stomach called chyme is pushed to the small intestine by peristaltic waves. The lining of the small intestine is covered with different structures such as microvilli and plicae circulares to enhance absorption of nutrients.
