Describe the possible effects of volunteer bias on the outcome of studies.

The people who choose to participate is the study might not be representative of the target group. For example, someone studying shopping habits through questionnaires are likely to only be successful in getting opinions from people who can afford to give time to answering questions. Busy people, with less time, will not be represented equally in the results and these shopper may spend more, or less, than others.
