you could perhaps research into misfit behaviour and the causes, such as;
teenage rebellion
addiction
social anxiety
family issues
then you could choose a story line, like a young misfit who gets in trouble at school due to his/her behaviour. you can set a main event. it doesn't necessarily have to be a crime, but just something to show that they struggle fitting into society.
