if the elapsed time is 9 3/4 hrs, and the end time is 6:00 pm, what is the start time

That's almost 10 hours. Going by that, 10 hours before 6:00 pm is 8:00 am
Then we add 15 minutes to that to make it 9 (3 / 4) hours.
8:15 a.m.
