In order for Ms. Bennett to determine the area or in this case, amount, of the carpet she will need to be able to cover the living room and the dining room, she just have to determine the dimensions of the rooms first and calculate the areas. Lastly, she needs to add up the areas.
She can find the area of each rectangle and find the sum. The area of living room is 20*20 or 400. The area of the Dining is 150. 400+150=550 square feet.
