Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743, in Shadwell, VA. He was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and later served as the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809. He was the one responsible for the Louisiana Purchase. His wife was Martha Jefferson.
