2x + 2 + 3x + 1 = 4x + 8

5x + 3 = 4x + 8

5x = 4x - 5

x = -5

therefore

4(-5 + 2)

4(-3)

-12

or

4(-5 + 2)

-20 + 8

-12

either way, it’s the same.
