y=x-2....eqn1

x+y=12.....eqn2

now,

from eqn 1

y= x-2

again, putting value of y in eqn 2

x+y=12
x+x-2=12
2x=12+2
x=14/2
x=7

in eqn 1

y=x-2
y=7-2
y=5
