Sulfate and sulfite ions are the polyatomic ions which are formed by the combination of sulfur and oxygen atoms. The chemical formula for sulfate and sulfite are respectively. Thus, the chemical formula for sulfate, sulfite and sulfide ions are respectively. All the ions carry a charge of -2.
