and then cary the negative sign over to the answer that you get which would be the nine

Step 1: divide -5 by both sides to isolate X  -5/-5 crosses out so it is X= 45/-5 which is -9 then the equation would be X=-9 
Step 2: check your work by doing -5x-9 = 45
The Correct Answer is x=-9
