First to find AB we use cosine

cos ∅ = Adjacent / hypotenuse

AB is the adjacent

BC is the hypotenuse

cos ∅ = AB/AC

cos 70 = AB / 8

AB = 8 cos 70°

AB = 2.736

AB = 2.7cm to one decimal place
