9.7 cm in meters is .097 m. you need to use the metric ladder.... check up metric ladder in images, and you'll see that meter is in the base, and centimeters is two steps down. So from cm you count how many steps it takes to go to meters which is Two, and you would move the decimal two spaces to the left.
