It's important for a researcher to know all safety procedures and where all safety equipment is stored even if they never have an accident because this information could save your life.  Even if you've never made a mistake or had an accident there's always that chance that you mess up and something bad happens and if you didn't know the safety procedures or where safety equipment is it could cost you your life and possibly the lives of others.
