it's probably easier for you to turn 5 1/2 into a

improper fraction so 5 1/2 will be 11 /2 . then 11/2 - 4/5 =

(11 ×5 ) -- ( 4×2 )
----------------------
2×5

equals 47/10 or 4 7 /10
