y  = - 6x - 23

the equation of a line in ' slope- intercept form ' is

y = mx + c ( m is the slope and c the y- intercept )

here m = - 6

the partial equation is y = - 6x + c

to find c, substitute ( - 4, 1 ) into the partial equation

1 = 24 + c ⇒ c = 1 - 24 = - 23

y = - 6x - 23 ← equation in slope- intercept form
