Women in Sparta in general had greater power. within Sparta, free women had more freedom than enslaved women. Although Spartan women were excluded from military and political life, that belong strictly to men, they enjoyed status as mothers of Spartan warriors. Women took responsibility for running households and raising children. The interesting fact is that they could own land and some of the wealthiest Spartans were women.
