I believe the answer is: great spirit will restore everything that is good, as was the original plan
The old man indicates that when the great spirit leave the earth, mankind started making destruction or changes that stray away from the purpose of the great spirit. When he came back, the great spirit would re-transform it so it can back to the original plan.
