No it would not be greater then the greatest value in the data set because the mean is the average of the data. To find the mean add all of the numbers in your data set together then divide by the number of numbers in the data set. 

Ex: 12, 17, 19, 20

12+17+19+20=68

68/4=17

So the mean would be 17.   Hope this helps :)
